Seed Highlights & Upcoming Events Bulletin

                                                                                                                                    Updated on: February 5, 2010

Hello again, I've been meaning to update sooner!

Well, it's the new year and I (Scott) have a few updates to provide to everyone.  Later in the month, Cando Farmers Grain & Oil Coop will be adding 3
seed bins to the existing site for more bulk storage of soybean seed.  The extra storage will increase the efficiency for loading out and providing the
customer with the exact amount of seed desired.

Harvest was a slow process this last fall, along with that arose questions regarding seed quality and quantity.  Those topics caught everyones attention in the retail seed, soybeans, supply/sales business.  Busy as fall was, it was a little bit of a shocker to many, myself included.  Companies that I deal with on soybean seed, that represent the majority of my stock, had some big issues to contend with:  wet beans, low germs, handling wet beans and harvesting issues.  January was the big month when I found out what amounts I could get and what amounts they had to cut from my preorders!  In the meantime, I  have been sourcing beans from other companies to fill in the cuts and continue filling new orders.  Wensman and Integra Seed are two companies that we've been accessing from that have had adequate supplies.  They to are getting into a limited to sold out position as the weeks go by, so the growers that haven't been planning or haven't preordered seed should be doing so soon!

The Emerald Extra Program that many of you know will be available again in 2010!  Scott and Nathan will be signing growers up in the various paks.  If any grower is wondering about the program or what the program entails, please give us a call!  The Emerald Extra program is a good deal that is free to growers to access some excellent prizes/awards!

*Also Scott and Nathan will be making Seed Order Snapshot Summaries for each grower with a current order!

Here is Overview on Seed Supplys:

Corn Seed:  The supplies are looking good, some sizes are in the sold out position, but overall in good shape for supply.

Soybean Seed:  The supplies are very tight, with many varieties being soldout or couldn't even access.  As said above, soybean seed is getting limited and I have heard of more potential cutting of some varieties due to quality issues!  A word of advice for all growers, check with your main seed suppliers to see what you prebooked and even prepaid for will be available. This is no joke, I (Scott) had to cut growers on beans that were prepaid!  I have been replacing with other varieties, but it's real and I'm sure other places had to do the same thing as well.  Check it out, I will be contacting growers next week when I get all beans confirmed!

Canola Seed:  What a year for canola!  Many of the high demand varieties are in sold out positions and many in the limited.  Invigor had a movement due to the preformance along with the $50/bag early order rebate from Bayer.  The Roundup Ready varieties are in descent shape, except high demand varieties and varieties like (HyClass 905, 712) which will be phased out after this year.

Sunflower Seed:   The supplies are good for now, but some high demand varieties might be going soon.  Overall, sunflower sales have been moving at a snails pace.

Seed supplies change daily, so best advice is to call and talk to ( Scott or Nathan ) on your total seed needs.
